ANYTHING GOES

"Anything Goes" is a lively and humorous musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter and a book originally by Guy Bolton and P.G. Wodehouse, later revised by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. Set aboard the luxury ocean liner SS American, the story follows a zany group of passengers as they sail from New York to London.

The central plot revolves around Billy Crocker, a young Wall Street broker who stows away on the ship to pursue his love, Hope Harcourt, a wealthy debutante engaged to the quirky British aristocrat Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Billy is aided by his friend Reno Sweeney, a bold and brassy nightclub singer and evangelist, and Moonface Martin, a comically inept gangster traveling in disguise as a minister.

As the voyage unfolds, identities are mistaken, disguises are worn, and romance blooms in unexpected places. The musical blends slapstick comedy, romantic confusion, and social satire, all set to Porter’s sparkling score, which includes beloved numbers like “Anything Goes,” “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “You’re the Top,” and “Blow, Gabriel, Blow.”

Full of charm, wit, and toe-tapping tunes, Anything Goes is a classic of American musical theatre that celebrates love, luck, and laughter on the high seas.
